Z28 Convertible by Straman - only 62k miles, V8, very well preserved original!

This 1984 Camaro Z28 was built at the Van Nuys, California plant and delivered to Straman Auto Restoration in Costa Mesa, California for conversion to a convertible, prior to being shipped to the original selling dealer, The Lang Chevrolet Company in Xenia, Ohio, and subsequently sold August 1, 1984 to its first owner, Ms. Pamela Steele, of Hamilton, Indiana.

Straman was well known for converting high end cars such as Ferrari, Rolls-Royce and Mercedes into convertibles. During a period of time in the 1980's when most automobile manufacturers had stopped producing convertibles, Straman expanded their expertise to meet the demand for more mainstream convertibles such as Camaro, Firebird, Nissan 300ZX, Dodge Stealth, Honda CRX, to name a few. The cost of a Straman conversion on a Camaro or Firebird of this era was generally said to be about $5,500 (in addition to the price of the car). According to period promotional materials, R Straman converted 608 Camaros and Firebirds between 1983 and 1988, although the actual number of cars completed is said to be significantly less than that.....and even fewer remain today.

This example started out with nearly every option available from GM at the time, including the optional High Output engine, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power seat, cruise control, tilt wheel, custom cloth interior, etc. Total sticker price, including the Straman conversion, was $24,447.59.

Today, this very well preserved original has 62k miles, and drives as great as it looks. The 5.0 liter High Output V8 fires right up and moves the car down the road with authority (and a satisfying rumble from its dual exhaust). The manual convertible top is very well engineered and easily goes up and down....faster than a power top and without the complexity of electric motors and/or hydraulics. The body is in excellent condition, the original paint still shines brightly, the interior is pristine, and the dash has no cracks.....this has clearly been a garage kept car.

Take a step back into the 80's at an affordable price.....call us today to schedule your test drive!

Also included is a set of 4 original 15" alloy wheels, mounted on brand new Goodyear tires and with new Z28 center caps.

Texas Motor Works

OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE!

As a boutique auto dealer, Texas Motor Works offers the very highest quality vehicles found in domestic and international markets. In addition to the vehicle finding & selling service, we invest in exotics such as Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Birkin, and Lotus which are for sale.

With a life-long love of vehicles, Texas Motor Works was founded in 1982 by Richard Brink. The company's standards are high and the TMW's team is focused on QUALITY! Owners of high-end vehicles understand the importance of exterior/interior maintenance, as well as the mechanical maintenance. While the class of vehicles we provide can be more expensive to find and acquire, we believe you will reap the benefits of lower maintenance and depreciation costs – thus saving your money! In the long run, these vehicles are the least costly to own!

Our searches are not limited to the Dallas-Fort Worth area; in fact, we search from coast-to-coast, as well as internationally. Why? Our experience has shown that while the DFW area is large, it is roughly 1% of the US market. Because Texas Motor Works is not constrained by the normal sales demands and high overhead costs of large automobile dealers and manufacturers, we can afford the time and effort required to find quality vehicles.

Another positive about our operation is that our inventory is at the low end of the historical depreciation curve. In other words, we can afford to be patient with sales, keeping in mind that many exotics continue to appreciate over time.

Our purchases must meet our very detailed TMW 5-Point Scale Condition Reporting System. While most vehicles maintain a 3.5 rating, our inventory must rate between 4.5 to 5 points, resulting in vehicles which are as close to new as a used car can be. Our system involves a roughly 100-point inspection, and we proudly include the condition ratings of our cars. Note: These ratings are conducted by independent service companies for your peace of mind.

The use of services such as car fax is a good resource in understanding a vehicle's history; however, we understand that most of these types of reporting services reports are completed without even SEEING the vehicle. That is why we believe our TMW 5-point Scale Condition Reporting System secures a much higher level of confidence about your purchase. It's interesting that many dealers do not offer these condition rating reports.

We have been blessed to work with a tremendous group of clients over the years and would be honored to help you find the car of your dreams. Feel free to browse our inventory and contact us at:
